The Queen of Pop is on the road to becoming a mother again – to two children, in fact. No, Madonna is not “doing a Beyoncé;” she’s adopting two girls from Malawi!
I can officially confirm I have completed the process of adopting twin sisters from Malawi and am overjoyed that they are now part of our family. I am deeply grateful to all those in Malawi who helped make this possible, and I ask the media please to respect our privacy during this transitional time. 🙏🏻 Thank you also to my friends, family and my very large team for all your support and Love! 💘🦋🦋🌺🌼🌸🦋🦋🙏🏻🙏🏻✈️✈️😂🤣🦋🦋♥️🌺🎈♥️
If this sounds a bit familiar, that’s because the “Hung Up” singer previously adopted two kids from Malawi – David Banda (in 2006) and Mercy James (in 2009).
Alas, it’s 2017 and the performer has decided to open her heart and the doors of her home to unprivileged children who need love, support, and nurture once again. Madonna, who had previously denied she was visiting Malawi in order to adopt, was given permission by the Malawian high court on Tuesday, February 7th , to adopt 4-year-old twins – Stella and Esther. The Malawian judicial spokesman, Mlenga Mvula, confirmed that “Madonna has been granted an adoption order for two children.”
The adorable twins are being adopted from the Home of Hope orphanage in Mchinji, a town near the country’s western border with Zambia. David, Madonna’s adopted son, previously lived in the same place.
Back in January, the songstress denied reports that she was intending to adopt more children and stated that the reports were “untrue rumors.” Madonna then claimed that she was visiting Malawi due to her work for NGO Raising Malawi. Just two weeks later, the singer’s statements turned out to be the untrue ones.
A government-appointed guardian will travel with the Queen of Pop and her newly adopted daughters to the States. After observing how Madonna looks after Esther and Stella, Dominic Misomale (the guardian), will report back to his government.
However, this happy tale did not go without drama. A lot of people in Malawi are feeling quite resentful over Madonna’s adoption plans, and they have accused their government of giving the “Like A Virgin” singer a special exception to laws that prevent non-residents from adopting children to take abroad. Luckily for Madonna, the judge ruled in her favor under the condition that she provides a suitable home.
Madonna’s Malawian lawyer, Titus Mvalo, stated that his client has “demonstrated over the years that she has passion for Malawi and her children,” which made the court satisfied. Therefore, the adoption could not be stopped. The girls’ biological mother has passed away, while the father was also present in the Lilongwe courtroom and agreed on Madonna adopting his daughters.
Apart from the two new members of her family, Madonna is also mother to above mentioned Mercy James, David Banda, Rocco, and Lourdes.
The famed performer shared her joy on social media, and posted a picture of her and her two daughters talking a walk in Malawi.
